Description
When a mysterious young woman seeks refuge in Nero Wolfe’s brownstone just before inheriting control of a major manufacturing company, Archie Goodwin offers her shelter—partly to provoke his famously irascible employer. Their ensuing quarrel sends Archie into an investigation of his own, involving a missing heiress, a disputed inheritance, and a series of murders that grows increasingly personal. As Archie confronts danger, arrest, and an unexpected romantic entanglement, Wolfe must set aside his pride and take on a case with his partner’s freedom at stake. A classic Nero Wolfe mystery, the novel combines intricate detection with sharp dialogue, dark humor, and the evolving loyalty between its unforgettable investigators.
