Description
While vacationing at Lily Rowan’s Montana ranch, Archie Goodwin is drawn into the murder of a wealthy vacationer shot at a neighboring dude ranch. Suspicion quickly falls on ranch manager Harvey Greve, whose daughter was once seduced and abandoned by the victim—but Archie and Lily recognize that the case involves far more motives, resentments, and hidden tensions than the obvious accusation suggests. As local law enforcement resists outside interference, Archie calls in Nero Wolfe, whose unorthodox methods and formidable intellect expose the secrets surrounding the killing. Set against a vividly rendered Western landscape, this classic mystery combines sharp observation, dry wit, and the enduring partnership of Stout’s celebrated detectives.
