The Burning

Mystery Detective Fiction Psychological Thriller

Description

When Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is called to a suspicious fire in the woods, she finds an Amish man murdered in a horrifying and ritualistic attack. The victim’s excommunication and troubled past offer few answers, while the Amish community’s silence suggests a secret buried deep within its history. As the investigation draws Kate into a little-known chapter of Anabaptist tradition—and implicates someone close to her—she must navigate divided loyalties, mounting threats, and revelations that challenge her understanding of the community she once called home. Linda Castillo delivers another gripping mystery rich with psychological tension, cultural conflict, and questions of faith, identity, and belonging.
