The Normandy Diary of Marie-Louise Osmont: 1940-1944

by Marie Louise Osmont

Description

From the first knock of six German soldiers at her chateau in 1940, this diary follows Marie-Louise Osmont as Normandy is reshaped by occupation, shifting armies, and the mounting terror of invasion. Written with gripping immediacy, her pages move between the ordinary rhythms of rural life and the brutal interruptions of war—raids and shelling, fear and fleeting beauty, injury and small comforts, grief and moments of human tenderness. As Axis and Allied forces collide around her home, Osmont’s intimate observations illuminate how civilians endure when their homeland becomes a battlefield that alters the course of history. Blending stark realism with lyrical detail, her voice offers a deeply personal lens on themes of resilience, moral complexity, and the cost of survival in wartime France.

a well kept diary with a unique perspective during war and the quartering of her chateau but i kept finding myself thinking about how much different the diaries of her staff or poorer people would have been during the same affair. also she calls some girls sluts??? like babes is that really what matters right now???
