Back Story

Description

Boston private investigator Spenser is drawn into a deeply personal case when Paul Giacomin—the troubled young man he helped years earlier—asks him to find his long-vanished mother. The search leads from Boston to a small Maine town and into the unresolved shadows of the past, where old loyalties, buried violence, and competing versions of the truth complicate every answer. Combining sharp detection with dry wit, moral complexity, and muscular action, the novel explores memory, family, identity, and the lasting consequences of abandonment.
