Description

In the small Massachusetts town of Paradise, police chief Jesse Stone faces mounting pressure to solve the murder of a prominent political commentator while investigating a second, seemingly overlooked death. As Stone navigates strained relationships, a troubled love life, and his ongoing battle with alcohol, an ambitious criminal assembles a crew to carry out an audacious robbery on nearby Stiles Island. Parker alternates between Stone’s methodical police work and the criminals’ escalating preparations, creating a brisk, suspenseful narrative filled with danger, deception, and dark humor. Alongside its crime plot, the novel explores fractured relationships, moral complexity, media influence, and the burdens of leadership.
